The Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee Chamber Music Festival
33rd year, 15 – 22 July 2017

From the Music Director
This year will mark the 33rd edition of the “Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee” Festival. In an ever-changing world and in a complex environment the festival succeeds, year after year, in creating a space in which beauty and depth are in its core. The wonderful artists who converge for rehearsals and concerts join the scores of listeners and together enjoy the cultural environment and the Galilee nature. This year we will again enjoy the three-point meeting of Music–Performers–Audience.
In the week of July 15-22, we will hold dozens of open rehearsals and no less than Twenty Six(!) performances; Participants will include dozens of artists from all over the world, two orchestras, two choirs, singers, bands, actors etc. in a stream of cultural events that will vary from intimate duos, trios and quartets all the way to large chamber ensembles, orchestras with soloists, vocal music, children’s concerts and informal musical events.
Only in the festival you can experience Haydn’s remarkable “Sunrise” Quartet at 7:00 AM, meet out of the ordinary trios by Bloch, Kodály and Brahms at 10:00 AM, continue into a Piano Quartet concert which will present the essence of the monumental “Eroica” Symphony of Beethoven at 12:00 PM; encounter a contemporary piece by the great American composer Steven Stucky at 3:00 PM and then attend the premiere of a new work for children by Nava Semel and Moshe Zorman “Stealing Kisses” at 5:00 PM; at sundown (6:30 PM) listen to Respighi’s dark “Il Tramonto” (“The Sundown”) and still make it to delight in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante and Prokofiev’s “Classical” Symphony at 8:30 PM. And that is still not all for a festival day!
The festival allows listeners to encounter new music and enjoy older familiar classics, meet new artists and experience fresh energetic performances in a unique environment.
Hope to see you there,
Zvi Plesser
Artistic Director
